Opal Gibson has written 'Indoor Relief', a diary of the life and times of a London Workhouse.

She draws on her memories from her time as the teenage daughter of the Assistant Master at the Swaffield Road Workhouse during the 1940's.

Further research was conducted to build a picture of this historic institution from 1886 to 1972

This is a Social History / Local History book following the transition of Workhouse to Institution to Residential Home Status.

A substantial book !
